The Amber fort construction begun in 1592, under the reign of Raja Man Singh I, commander in Chief of Akbar's army. It was later completed by his descendant, Raja Jai Singh I. The fort is built in white marble and red sandstone. Amber fort was modified by successive Rajput rulers for the next 150 years.

Architecture of Amber fort
The exquisite architecture of the Amber fort, beckon thousands of visitors. Interiors of the fort are enhanced with carvings, precious stones and mirror settings. Maotha Lake situated in front of fort reflects its beautiful terraces and ramparts. The majestic Fort is decorated in Mughal and Hindu style and offers a warm and serene ambiance. The fort is divided into four main sections, each with its own courtyard.

»Diwan-i-am: Diwam-i-am (Hall of Public Audiences) is a pavilion with a double row of columns each topped by a capital in the shape of an elephant and latticed galleries above.
»Kali Devi Temple: The Kali Devi Temple, with gorgeous silver doors features repousse work. Two silver lions are placed before the image of Goddess.
»Ganesh Pol:The third courtyard is the fascinating Ganesh Pol, adorned with beautiful sculptures.
»Jai Mandir: The Jai Mandir comprises of inlaid panels and multi-mirrored ceilings.
»Sukh Niwas: Opposite the Jai Mandir lies the Sukh Niwas (Hall of Pleasure), with an ivory inlaid doors made from sandalwood.
