I visited India two years back on my official visit, as
our company in Abu Dabi is a bulk purchaser of transformers and other
equipment from India (Cochin), I often had to come to India for inspection
purposes to Cochin . In one of my official tour to India, I planed to visit
Ajmer - one of the most renowned pilgrimage centers of Muslims. After
spending few days in Kerala till my worked finished, I took a direct flight
to Delhi, my Indian friend - Murthi who is also working with me in Abu-Dabi
accompanied me on my trip.

Being
the capital of India, Delhi is full of activities and is also called a
monumental city. In my day stay in Delhi, I happened to visit some of the
marvels of wonder- the magnificent Qutub Minar, Red Fort, Jama Masjid, India
Gate and Lotus Temple. My stay in Delhi was quite captivating, I could
notice that there is not much difference in the two cultures, here also
people have preserved their rich culture and heritage. Still females are
seen in their traditional dresses ( Saree, Salwar Kameez) with typical
Indian Jewelry.
After my fabulous stay in Delhi, I traveled to my next destination -Ajmer.
I opted for a train journey, as it was more comfortable and entertaining,
and more over back home we don't have rail tracks due to rocky terrain. I
was quite sure, to have a rail cruise to Rajasthan. First time in life I had
a rail journey, every thing was unique for me on the board, people coming,
people going along with many vendors -selling the mouth watering snacks. My
fellow person - took some roasted pea nuts with cover -some thing which I
have never tasted in whole lot of my life, it was simple tasty, I also
enjoyed guavas, oranges and some fried snacks.
We arrived at Ajmer railway station, our booking was done with one of the
luxurious hotel - a very comfortable accommodation in Ajmer.
For next day a tourist cab was arranged for us, after breakfast, we visited
Mata Sati Temple dedicated to the Sati Goddess, the complete Ajmer terrain
is encircled with Aravalli Ranges, that made me remind me of my own country.
After that we visited majestic Circuit House perched on a hilltop, it was
an exquisite British Resident during the British regime. The picturesque
view of the Anna Sagar Lake from the hilltop was quite amazing, Our four
wheel driver took us to a fabulous eating joint, where we enjoyed a
wholesome and utterly delicious Marwari lunch- putting lot of calories at
one time-some thing which I have never tried in my whole life.
Our next destination was the holy mosque and the Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti's
Dargah -- a Sufi Saint that makes Ajmer an important pilgrim center of
Muslims, next to Mecca Madina. To my wonderment the mosque was throng with
thousands of devotees from all over the world. In fact, the place was a good
example of Hindus and Muslims unity, as I have heard about India, both visit
the dargah and say their prayers, attaining a boon and amity of mind. With
whole heart, I did my prayers with all ritual ceremonies - I had a strong
feeling of spirituality when the priest gave us the blessings.
I left the dargah with a sense of high esteem, fortunate enough to get a
subliminal image of the true spirit of Islam.
The local guide, who had accompanied us to the mosque, took us to Pushkar-
about 11km from Ajmer. The city is quite famous for some of the beautiful
temples dedicated to Brahma the Creator of Universe as told by our guide. It
was really entertaining to listen to the great mythology of India- stories
like the one we hear in Arabian Nights- full of magic, magic and all magic!!
Another attraction of the place was its Pushkar Fair- the biggest cattle
fair in the country that is held there every year in the month of November.
In almost 30 minutes we were in the town, as such we were quite lucky to
participate in the fair. Thousand of men and women throng from all over the
Rajasthan and other nearby places to buy and sell camels and cattle-quite
surprising. The erotic camel's were adorned with colorful dresses and
decorated with heavy jewelry. The event was further celebrated with cultural
dances and songs performed by the local artisans. I did not understand but
definitely could enjoy the stuff. I also did some shopping of rare artifacts
from the fair and some tie and dye cloths- the specialty of Rajasthan. Well,
I was assured to attain salvation, by paying my visit to this divine city of
Ajmer.
